New Deed Recording

How to Record a Deed in Warren County, MO

Recording a new deed is different from searching an existing record. Missouri statutory formatting and legal-document requirements must be satisfied before the Recorder can accept it.

1

Prepare a Typed Document

Effective January 1, 2026, Warren County does not accept handwritten recording documents. Use a typed, legible instrument that complies with the county’s formatting rules.

2

Check Paper and Margin Requirements

Ordinary paper should be 8.5 × 11 inches, printed on one side. Reserve a three-inch top margin on the first page for the Recorder; use at least three-quarter-inch margins elsewhere.

3

Include Required First-Page Information

As applicable, include the instrument title, document date, grantor and grantee names, grantor marital status for land transfers, required addresses, legal description and statutory book/page references.

A street address alone is not an acceptable substitute for a legal description.

4

Review Signatures and Acknowledgments

Names should be typed or printed beneath signatures. Confirm the appropriate Missouri execution and notarization requirements for your particular instrument.

5

Calculate Recording Charges

Use the updated August 2026 fee schedule. Check special charges for nonstandard documents, multiple referenced assignments or releases, plats and surveys.

6

Submit Before 4 PM

Visit the Recorder at 101 Mockingbird Lane, Suite 303, Warrenton. Although the office is open until 4:30 PM, the county accepts recording submissions only until 4 PM on weekdays.

No deed preparation service: The Recorder cannot prepare a deed, decide which document you need or determine legal ownership. Changing or adding a name to a recorded deed usually requires preparing and recording a new valid instrument.
